Global Handwashing Day was celebrated this Friday, November 28, 2025, in Damissa, a village of nearly 1,500 inhabitants located in Djohong Commune.

Led by a joint team comprised of the WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Agent and staff of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), this commemorative day was dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of handwashing before and after every meal, after every contact with a sick person, after any manual or physical work, after using the toilet, after cleaning children, and so on. This practice, although seemingly simple, should not be neglected, as it is an important means of preventing certain hygiene-related diseases such as typhoid, dysentery, amoebiasis, and cholera. To this end, handwashing demonstrations were conducted for the villagers and WASH kits containing soap, buckets, and plastic kettles were distributed to the community to encourage them to adopt this practice.
